Tool: Blood test and Parkinson
It seems like a simple blood test will one day allow doctors to determine if a person has a classic case of Parkinson’s disease or has Parkinson Plus. Parkinson Plus defines an array of neurodegenerative diseases that have symptoms like those of Parkinson’s disease. In the early stages of the disease, it is sometimes difficult to distinguish between Parkinson Plus and Parkinson’s disease However, a research team in Sweden discovered that the dosage of a protein derived from the neurofilament light chain would allow to determine if a person is suffering from Parkinson’s disease or a parkinsonian syndrome. Additional clinical studies will be required to confirm this biomarker’s reliability.
