Study on exercise and brain functions : looking for participants

Centre de recherche of Institut universitaire de gériatrie de Montréal is looking for participants for its research on exercise and brain functions.

Required profile :

  • People between 50 and 75 years old
  • Right-handed
  • Non smoking
  • With a lifestyle that is not very active
  • Diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease

You must be willing to participate in a 12 weeks program measuring the effect of physical activity on the brain, functional capacities and quality of life.

Two administrators of Parkinson Bas-Saint-Laurent have been honored

Parkinson Quebec is proud to announce that two administrators of Parkinson Bas-Saint-Laurent have been honored recently.

In fact, sirs Bernard Côté and Jacques Lemieux received honorific awards in their own cities.

The outgoing chair of the Société Parkinson du Bas-Saint-Laurent, Bernard Côté, from Mont-Joli, was awarded the Prix J.-Adalbert-Landry 2015. The award, which has been given out by the Mont-Joli Rotary Club for 29 years, was presented by outgoing president Jean Bélanger on Thursday in front of 60 people gathered in the André-Boutin hall.

Tango dancing could benefit Parkinson’s disease patients

Dancing the Argentine tango could have potential benefits for people at certain stages in the development of Parkinson’s disease (PD), according to findings in a new study by researchers at the Montreal Neurological Institute and Hospital -The Neuro, McGill University and the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre. The study looked at changes in patients’ motor abilities following a 12-week tango course, and is also the first study to assess the effect that tango has on non-motor symptoms.
