Testimony of Catherine, physiotherapist

Physical activity? It’s ESSENTIAL!

Testimony of Catherine Lavigne-Pelletier, Kinesiologist, MSc

Physical activity is indispensable for slowing the progression of Parkinson’s disease and reducing its symptoms. In addition to all of the benefits associated with physical and mental health, it is essential to stay active, even during a pandemic.

As a healthcare professional, I have noticed a positive difference in the lives of people with Parkinson’s disease who have participated in the physical activities set up by Parkinson Québec.

Their online platform “Pouvoir d’Agir” makes it possible to participate in physical activities which are pleasant, effective and suitable for everyone.

This platform also helps break the isolation. Participants feel less alone and can talk to one another in addition to improving their general physical condition (balance, endurance, coordination, range of motion…). In the last couple of weeks, participants have reported to me that they have more energy after doing their physical activity session and that they feel more in control of their disease.

With the “Pouvoir d’Agir”  platform: it’s very simple! Participants choose activities and can do them from the comfort of their own homes. Everyone goes at their own pace and enjoys all of the benefits that physical activity can give them to better manage their disease.
There is no quick fix to get moving, you need to activate yourself and have the motivators in front of you to start or continue! Parkinson Québec has understood what to offer the Parkinson’s community.
