Hello,
I would like to take this opportunity to tell my wife Danielle how grateful I am for the quality of care she gives me every day. I am grateful for every hour she reminds me to take my medication, every minute she prepares everything we need for our next hike, and every second for the little kiss she gives me as she runs to the gym with me and tells me for the thousandth time how important physical activity is, especially for someone with Parkinson’s. My two adorable daughters now act exactly like their mother and I would not be surprised to see my four grandchildren do the same.
My name is Sylvain Dubé. I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in early 2000s. I am a fighter from the business world who was not ready to accept what was happening to him.
Danielle and I moved to Montreal from Jonquière so I can be closer to my neurologist and be more involved in the cause. Among other things, I became a spokesperson for Parkinson Québec. I motivated people with Parkinson’s disease to set goals for themselves, have a positive attitude, exercise, eat well, and especially take their medications at the prescribed times. My condition eventually got worse.
Four years ago, I decided to go ahead with a surgical procedure that consists of implanting electrodes that activate areas responsible for controlling movement. I had to go through a withdrawal from one of my medications and pass numerous tests to qualify. I succeeded, but not without difficulty.
Giving me my medication 13 times a day and supporting me tirelessly, I offered Danielle the break she needed by staying in a care facility for over 3 months.
Today, I am better and so is Danielle! I would like to express my gratitude for who she is and for her great dedication.
With love,
Sylvain xxx
