History of Parkinson en movement

In 2007 Sarah Humphrey founded Parkinson en movement (PEM) with dance therapist Joanabbey Sack and physiotherapist Maura Fisher. It is a non-profit organization based on dance-movement and voice training classes designed for people with Parkinson’s.

In association with the Grands Ballets’ National Dance Therapy Centre, PEM designed a teaching template to train other dancers & therapists.

There are currently 5 classes in Montreal, one in Laval, one in St Lambert, and one further afield at Lac Mégantic.

Another project, Art in Motion brings together the Montreal Museum of Fine arts’ Wellness Education Program with PEM This workshop allows participants to learn about the works of art, create movements in an exhibition space, create a painting in art therapy studios or invent a choreography and tell a story.

On the medical side, PEM maintains links with the movement clinics at the McGill & Université de Montréal Health Centres (MUHC & CHUM), with other rehabilitation centres (such as Lucie-Bruneau & Constance-Lethbridge), research institutes (the Neuro, BRAMS, Concordia’s Arts Therapies & the Perform Centre).
